1. What is Spiritual Healing?
Spiritual healing is, basically, a stepping out of deficiency, into a more spiritually whole state of being. Our "self" is spread out over many levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. It may be fragmented, split, weakened, or otherwise not integral, with parts of us trapped in the past, overwhelmed in the present, or projected into an imaginary future. There may be many parts of us on other levels that we are not in touch with, which need to be reintegrated, so that we may be more whole and wholly alive.
Spiritual healing is a return to greater wholeness. This may or may not happen all at once, and it may or may not even be apparent what has actually happened when spiritual healing occurs. Nevertheless, it is a very real possibility worth pursuing.
Like most things of a spiritual nature, healing is a subtle process. It is not something that is necessarily experienced with the outer senses. In other words, it may not be seen, heard, felt, and so on, not on a physical-sensory level. But, it may be experienced on a more subtle level of feeling, seeing, and so on.
It helps to have some understanding of things that are not generally seen with our own eyes, so that we may allow the experience to occur without putting things in the way. For example, if you do not believe that you even have a spirit, or that there is such a thing as spiritual healing, then you are putting a large block in the way of it happening. You are not allowing a space in which healing can occur. So, a simple and innocent approach works best. It is not your belief that makes it happen, but a refusal to believe it is possible can be a big obstacle.
Our society is so dominated by the self-proclaimed authorities of science and medicine, that it is not even possible to suggest that "healing" or "health" is in any way related to matters of spirit. Such ideas are considered "false claims" to be vigorously attacked by the medical establishment and science in general. You need to understand that science refuses to admit the existence of spirit — or anything of a spiritual nature, including God — and has become its own "god" with strict punishments for violating its absolute decrees as to what is real and acceptable in its eyes and what is not. People have gone to jail for practicing healing techniques that were not approved of by the prevailing authorities (whose views, like the absolute decrees of religious authorities, tend to change over time, and even be reversed). So, we will make absolutely no claims whatsoever about anyone, anywhere, at any time being healed or helped in any way with any disease, illness, physical, mental, emotional, or otherwise. We are speaking of matters of the spirit, philosophy, and soul. We understand that science says you do not have a soul; we say you do, but we will leave it to you to decide such matters for your self.
We live in a very sick society, in which the truth of things is reversed. Those who know the least are in charge, and they pursue their mission with a vengeance, to keep everyone else as ignorant as they are. Consider complimentary medical approaches, Eastern practices and Western ones which are not in favor with the authorities, including acupuncture, the healing essences in flowers and herbs, homeopathy, ayurveda, taiji, and qigong. Countless millions of people have benefited from these approaches, even though they are generally not recognized as having any value by Western medicine. The whole idea of preventative medicine or the value of nutrition has escaped the thinking of Western medical authorities for the longest time. They focus on disease, and more specifically, on dealing with the gross physical symptoms, usually without having any idea what the real cause is or how to heal it. The authorities refuse to admit what they do not know or understand, and prefer to label it as not real or proven.
That is the background or context in which "healing" is understood — and takes place — in our society. The truth is, it is not understood, and rarely takes place, at all. So, there is a lot we need to get beyond if we wish to understand the deeper meaning and possibilities of real healing.
If there is such a thing as healing, we would have to define it in terms of our whole self. It makes little sense to "heal" or fix some small part, while the whole remains dis-integrated, dis-eased, or dis-abled. There must be a form of healing which heals all of us. This is what we refer to as "spiritual healing" — the healing of who we really are.
2. What Really Needs Healing?
Actually, when most of us think of healing, we think more in terms of our physical bodies, or perhaps our minds and emotions. Rarely do we think in terms of spiritual healing.
Yet, we are really spiritual beings. That is who we are. So, true healing must in some way relate to who we really are, or else how could we call it healing? It would be like patching up a hole in a pair of jeans, and thinking we had healed ourselves. The jeans are just something we wear.
The truth is: the body is just something we wear, too.
Yet, to function on this level, and to minimize our suffering, we need to keep our bodies in repair, and tend to our mind, body, emotions, and spirit. All of these.
According to one theory, all disease and illness, all physical infirmity of any kind, are caused by karma — they are the result of some past action, usually in some past life. Negative consequences of actions tend to accumulate, rather than manifesting immediately. When we take birth here, that karma "catches up" with us. We have (or may develop) all sorts of weaknesses, maladies, genetic problems, and so on. And, we are susceptible to the further impact of parasites, pathogens, and disease carriers in our environment. In this esoteric theory of disease, illness, and suffering, it is past (whether the distant past or immediate past) negativity that causes our present problems.
The accepted solution to our health problems in our modern society is to treat the symptom without trying to understand the underlying non-physical cause of the problem. Science does not recognize things of a more spiritual nature. But, there is always a more subtle level of manifestation of any sickness, whether on the physical, mental, or emotional level. As we have observed, all physical matter is basically congealed energy. Energy flow is disrupted, blocked, or improperly channeled when there is sickness. And, one way to treat a disease is to not only treat the symptoms which appear on the gross physical level, but to also treat the dis-ease, energy imbalance or blockage, or the negative or stagnant energy, on the more subtle levels.
The process of suppressing disease symptoms via drugs, or cutting out the offending parts, has never brought us to a state of healing or wholeness. Rather, it has contributed to our overall dis-integration. The body is treated as a separate entity, apart from our mind and emotions and spirit. Yet, they are not separate. Each one greatly affects the others. And, if we seek to actually heal ourselves, we need to address all of these aspects of ourselves.
It is ironic that science focuses almost entirely on the body, when we are not the body. None of us is the body we find ourselves in. We are the inner being, the consciousness, soul or spirit. But medical doctors can only see the physical body, can only understand "cause and effect" in terms of what they can measure with their scientific instruments, and choose to entirely ignore the spirit.
Yet, bringing our attention to Spirit allows us to truly heal.
And, we do mean heal, not just suppress symptoms of our dis-ease.
We need healing from the deepest level of our being, not just on the level of our body.
3. Re-integration
We are a spiritual being that presently has a body — and all of who we are does not "fit" in the physical body. There are parts of us that are in a different dimension, on another level. The energy being, soul, or spirit extends far beyond the body and its organs. We even leave the body, daily, when we sleep and go off to another level to recharge ourselves with life-energy.
Parts of who we are have become separate from us. We have left parts of our consciousness in the past. We have left parts of ourselves in places, events, traumas, and possessions we have. Just think, for a moment, of all of the things you possess; think of all the places you've lived; think of stressful events in your life, including, perhaps, trauma or abuse. We lose parts of ourselves in our worldly experience; they become disconnected from us. Our self is somehow fractured, and parts of us remain trapped in past experiences, places, things, and circumstances. This is why people say they just cannot get over something, or forget it, or move on. Part of them is actually stuck there, and they cannot recover it.
So, spiritual healing requires us to return to wholeness, reclaim parts of ourselves that we have left behind or lost sight of, and heal the dis-integration that we experienced in the world.
Simply coming in to this life, we are made to forget who we are, all we have ever learned, and the "whole" of who we truly are. We are fragmented, given a physical body, and sent on our way. This is why we suffer. We are disadvantaged, dissociated, and dis-integrated from the start.
Disease is merely a physical manifestation of our state of mental-emotional-psychic-spiritual dis-integration.
There are teachings that declare we need to welcome all parts of who we are, to regain our spiritual integrity. This is, like most popular spiritual teachings today, misguided. We are told that we need to accept the shadow, the darkness, equally with the Light. This is nonsense.
Spiritual darkness, the energy which destroys all that is good, does not ever truly heal us. Accepting the darkness and shadow is not accepting our True Self; it is accepting the non-self, the misidentification we have taken on in this world. It is accepting that which ultimately destroys us. The dark side is negative energy, no matter how "empowering" it might feel.
Energy is polarized in this universe; it has positive and negative aspects. Our life force energy is not like a battery with positive and negative terminals — it is alive; it has an underlying intent, tendency, or effect. We need it to sustain our physical body, but it is not the ultimate spiritual Light of the Divine.
What we really need isn't just more energy or "healing" of the lower nature (body, emotions, and mind), but more Light and healing of the higher nature (soul and spirit). It is simply not possible to heal the physical body and thereby guarantee healing the spirit; it is not even possible to heal the spirit and thereby guarantee healing of the body. They are connected, but there is a kind of disconnect between the higher and lower nature. We leave the lower nature behind when we drop the body at the end of this life — if it hasn't been healed, so what? It is going to die and totally disintegrate, anyway. That is unavoidable.
What is avoidable is the disintegration of the higher nature (soul and spirit) — who we truly are. In fact, we can integrate the highest aspects of ourselves with the Divine, and receive healing on the highest level.
It is not necessary to "integrate" our ego and emotional nature into who we are; rather, it is necessary to let those aspects of non-self diminish and die out. It is not necessary to "integrate" the shadow or karmic self or the dark side; rather, it is necessary to let those aspects of non-self diminish and die out.
We need to integrate with Light, pure Divine Light. That is something that has not been possible in this world for a very, very long time. There has only been split or polarized light available for eons, not pure Divine Light. All of the spiritual Light here, even that brought by Divine aspects, was polarizable, separable into positive and negative, and ultimately converted into the negative aspect. That is no longer the case.
We are moving beyond spiritual polarity, now. And the way to align the True Self with pure Divine Light, to return to wholeness, to return to the Source, is to step out of the karmic system of polarization and opposites.
4. Spiritual Polarity
Though we may be beings of Light, all light is "polarized" in this universe. It has a polarity, and it expresses via duality: opposites.
There are some spiritual teachings that say we need to accept everything, good and evil, light and darkness, right and wrong, without discerning the difference. They declare that everything is really the same, all is one, and all is well in the universe. That is simply not true.
There is not supposed to be any such thing as suffering, disease, death, or separation from the Divine. Yet, it happens in this localized universe, contrary to what happens in the rest of the Divine creation. It is a phenomenon or aberration which does exist, and which does not go away by our telling ourselves we cannot see it or that it doesn't exist, or that all is well. That is the worst form of spiritual denial.
Light is polarized at a right angle (90 degrees) and in the opposite polarity (180 degrees).
If you take a wave form — and all energy and light travels in waves — and reverse its phase or polarity, and superimpose it on the original, the original wave is canceled out. That is why the Light or presence of God is so hard to detect in our world or our universe. It is not seen because it has been polarized, twisted, and reversed, so that it is effectively canceled out.
Instead of living from the divine qualities of Light, Love, Peace, Honesty, Wisdom, Power, and Grace, we live in polarity or duality, bouncing back and forth between the opposite spiritual qualities of light and darkness, love and hate, honesty and corruption, wisdom and ignorance, peace and war, power and weakness, grace and bondage. The domain in which we go from one polarity to the other, over and over, is known as the karmic system. Life after life we bounce back from the physical level to the astral level, and try to find ways to balance out our karma. We are given the illusion that we can ultimately do this and be free. But, that is simply not true. No one in this world gets free from karma, at least, not until now.
We are going to describe how each of the Divine rays is twisted or turned into the opposite polarity, and then do an exercise to get free from this erroneous polarization.
First, consider the essence of Light.
Light
|
|
|———> False light
|
|
Darkness
Divine Light, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes False light, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is basically where all of the false teachings, especially the declaration that we need to accept and balance both darkness and light, comes from. It is not True Source, though many teachings, especially those of the New Agers, promote this belief.
Divine Light with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes total spiritual darkness. This is where all of the suffering, pain, ignorance, hate, war, and intractability of problems come from. It is clearly not True Source.
Next consider the essence of Love.
Love
|
|
|———> False love
|
|
Hate
Divine Love, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes False love, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where all the false teachings, especially the declaration that we need to love and accept everyone and everything as they are, comes from. It is not True Source, though many teachings, especially those of the New Agers, promote this belief.
Divine Love with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes total spiritual hate. This is where all of the suffering, pain, ignorance, hatred, war, and intractability of problems come from. It is clearly not True Source.
Next consider the essence of Peace.
Peace
|
|
|———> False peace, or
Acquiescence
|
|
War
Divine Peace, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes Acquiescence, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where all the false teachings, especially the declaration that we need to submit or acquiesce to what is wrong, comes from. It is not True Source, though many teachings, especially those of the New Agers, promote this belief.
Divine Peace with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes total spiritual war. This is where all war, violence, hostility, oppression, and abusiveness comes from. It is clearly not True Source.
Next consider the essence of Honesty.
Honesty
|
|
|———> False honesty, or
Deception
|
|
Lies
Divine Honesty, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes Deception, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where false and corrupted teachings, especially the declaration that we need to submit to the karmic system and all its "lessons," comes from. It is not True Source, though many teachings, especially those of the New Agers, promote this belief.
Divine Honesty with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes total spiritual lies. This is where all false indoctrination, propaganda, and untruth comes from. It is clearly not True Source.
Next consider the essence of Wisdom.
Wisdom
|
|
|———> False wisdom or
Intellectualism
|
|
Ignorance
Divine Wisdom, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes Intellectualism, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where all the rationalizations, justifications, logical and reasonable explanations for everything, comes from. It is not True Source, though many destructive and deluded teachings, especially those of science, promote such beliefs.
Divine Wisdom with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes total spiritual ignorance. This is where the inability to know what is right, good, and true for us, comes from. It is clearly not True Source.
Next consider the essence of Power.
Power
|
|
|———> False power, or
Control
|
|
Helplessness
Divine Power, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes Control, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where all the false claims of authority, control, oppression, and subjugation, comes from. It is not True Source, though many destructive and deluded teachings, especially those of many institutions, traditions, and science, promote such beliefs.
Divine Power with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes spiritual helplessness. This is where the feeling of being powerless, or being victimized, comes from. It is clearly not True Source.
Finally, consider the essence of Grace.
Grace
|
|
|———> False grace, or
Capitulation
|
|
Overwhelm
Divine Grace, twisted at a 90 degree angle becomes Capitulation, an energy that appears to be of the divine source, but which is not. This is where all the false teachings of seeing everything as already perfect, comes from. It is not True Source, though many destructive and deluded teachings promote such beliefs — the ultimate illusion mistaken for reality.
Divine Grace with a reversed polarity (180 degrees) becomes spiritual overwhelm. This is where the feeling of being unable to cope or go on, being unable to find your way or to endure, comes from. It is clearly not True Source.
We will be continuing our exploration of how to return to True Source.
5. Opposition and Resistance
The way to resolve and remove opposition and resistance, is by coming closer to True Source, rather than living in the realm of opposites.
There are some teachings which say we should not discern the difference between opposites, because that "creates opposition." That is simply not true. Everything is already structured in opposition in this universe, including our very life energy. Everything is already polarized. Seeing how it is does not make it that way.
On the other hand, refusing to see how things are, makes a person blind to their differences, or less willing to reject the negative and embrace the positive. In other words, those who claim to live without opposition or resistance are perpetuating the fundamental opposition because of their refusal to align with the positive aspect and reject the negative. By embracing both, equally, they perpetuate the duality of good and evil, light and darkness, right and wrong. This is a state of spiritual denial, not some kind of enlightenment.
Those who claim that they are open to "the Universe" and the Universe provides all their needs, everything they want, money, sex, success, power, are not connecting with True Source. They are connecting with a different source, a twisted or opposite source. They are simply not aware that that is what they are doing. The "Universe" is not supremely benevolent or solely good. It is totally polarized and demonstrates every form of spiritual darkness, evil, corruption, violence, abuse, destruction, suffering, and death imaginable. None of that is connected to the original Divine Source or Divine will. Imagining evil, wrong, and darkness do not exist, or it is "all good," does not ever make it so. Not now. Not ever.
So, those who refuse to discern the difference between good and evil, right and wrong, and Light and darkness only perpetuate the system of suffering for everyone else. Even if they manage to escape suffering in some way.
Opposing evil does not create evil. It does not give power to evil. It does not make evil exist. Rather, it allows connection with True Source.
Seeing what is wrong does not make it wrong. It does not give it power. It is not judging. Rather, it allows us to perceive and connect with True Source.
Realizing the truth means recognizing the lie. All truths are not "equal." We choose what Truth we want to come closer to, and by default, what we wish to move away from. That is simply being spiritually responsible. It is not failing to accept everything as being already perfect, right, good, and true.
Seeing what is wrong, and rejecting it, does not mean we are taking our identity from it, or from opposition to it. Rather, we are simply choosing to stand in what is right.
Seeing what is false, and rejecting it, does not mean we are taking our identity from it, or from opposition to it. Rather, we are simply choosing to stand in what is true.
Seeing what is evil, and rejecting it, does not mean we are taking our identity from it, or from opposition to it. Rather, we are simply choosing to stand in what is good.
There is a difference, and it is vitally important to realize what that difference is. If you refuse to step out of duality and the karmic realm of opposites, or see the difference, you are refusing to be truly spiritually free. If you imagine there is no such thing as wrong, evil, or untruth, you are living in bondage while preferring to hold the illusion that you are free. You haven't gotten free from anything, except Truth, Reality, and True Source.
If ever you begin to fall for the illusion that everything is perfect, and the universe if totally benevolent, open your eyes to the suffering that all beings have had for all recorded time, which continues to this day. If you are not suffering greatly, do not use that as an excuse to ignore — or rationalize, or accept — the suffering of everyone else, including those who are living in the most horrific circumstances, right now. Accepting suffering, thinking it has value or that it is merely our own choosing, imagining that nothing "bad" ever happens to us, merely perpetuates the karmic system of suffering for everyone.
6. Coming into Balance
This is an exercise in moving beyond duality, into Divine balance. Though we acknowledge the existence of polarization or opposites, we do not seek to justify or accept the negative aspect. In other words, Light does not need spiritual darkness to exist; love does not need hate; peace does not need war, and so on. The true balance is simply a balance of complementary and harmonious divine spiritual qualities — without the negative aspect being necessary at all.
Exercise One: Begin by taking a few deep breaths,
relaxing on the exhale, and relaxing. Be comfortable where
you are, turn off your phone, and minimize any distractions for
the time of this exercise (at least 10-15 minutes).
You will be visiting a spiritual sanctuary which you will
visualize, and create, to your own satisfaction. Please read
the following description before you start.
Begin with the image of yourself walking along a beach of
pure white sand. The weather is perfectly comfortable,
clear, and fresh. Waves are gently breaking along the shore,
creating a quiet rhythmic sound, which seems to wash away all
of your cares.
See yourself walking up from the sand towards an area of
grass, flowers, and some trees. There is a trail going
upwards, and it feels familiar and reassuring to be moving up
it. You feel perfectly at ease, and breathe easily here.
You have left all your worries and cares behind you.
Now you come to a dwelling that is very pleasing to your
eyes, with lovely wood, open windows, and an open entrance
area. The breeze is pure, clean, and refreshing.
You take a seat in the main area near a table with
crystals upon it. There are seven clear crystals that are
glowing strongly, and you recognize them as your own. You
have held them in your hands in the past, and you can almost
feel the energy, now.
You notice that the crystal in the center is the largest
one, and on each side of if are three smaller crystals. The
seven are in perfect harmony with each other.
First you put both hands around the large central
crystal, and it immediately reminds you of the presence of Pure
Light within you. It reminds you of the Light you carry with
you, always. As you touch the crystal, it glows brighter and
brighter, until the Light moves into your hands, up your arms,
and into the middle of your chest. You feel this bright,
strong Light and energy in the area of your heart. You feel
the Light in your own heart, and are thankful for the reminder
given to you by the glowing crystal, of that Light in you.
Allow yourself to feel this spiritual quality within
you. Take as long as you need.
Next you touch the crystal on each side of the main
one. Your right hand touches the one to the right, and your
left hand touches the one to the left. The two crystals
begin to glow brighter and brighter. The one on the left has
a quality of Peace, and the one on the right has a quality of
Grace. You recall that these spiritual qualities are in your
own heart, and as you do, the energy pours out of the two
crystals and up your arms, to mix in your heart. In the
Light in your heart, the qualities of Peace and Grace blend
together, in perfect harmony.
Allow yourself to feel these spiritual qualities within
you. Take as long as you need.
When you are ready, see yourself moving your hands to the
next crystal on each side. As soon as you touch them, the
two crystals begin to glow brighter and brighter. The
crystal on the left has a quality of Wisdom, and the one on the
right has a quality of Honesty. You recall that these
spiritual qualities are in your own heart, and as you do, the
energy pours out of the two crystals and up your arms, to mix
in your heart. In the Light in your heart, the qualities of
Wisdom and Honesty blend together, in perfect harmony.
Allow yourself to feel these spiritual qualities within
you. Take as long as you need.
When you are ready, see yourself moving your hands to the
outermost crystal on each side. As soon as you touch them,
the two crystals begin to glow brighter and brighter. The
crystal on the left has a quality of Power, and the one on the
right has a quality of Love. You recall that these spiritual
qualities are in your own heart, and as you do, the energy
pours out of the two crystals and up your arms, to mix in your
heart. In the Light in your heart, the qualities of Power
and Love blend together, in perfect harmony.
Allow yourself to feel these spiritual qualities within
you. Take as long as you need.
Finally, see yourself completely surrounded by a sphere
of white light, which protects all of these spiritual qualities
within you.
When you are finished, see yourself gently getting up,
leaving your sanctuary, walking down the path down to the sandy
shore, walking along the water.
Rub your hands together, take a few moments to quietly be
where you are, and then gently open your eyes.
The purpose of this exercise was to simply integrate and balance your true spiritual qualities, and disallow the presence of the negative aspect within you. If you ever feel the need, you can return to this sanctuary and do the same exercise, to strengthen these divine qualities in you. Realize, you do not need to live with the harmful polarization and negativity of this world — you can find your true divine essence, and live from there. The Way to do this is not by denying the existence of negativity but by living in a place of true balance — free from that negativity — as best you can.
7. The Energy Body
Energy is the fundamental reality of matter. Physical matter is only energy.
This basic understanding, perception, and experience leads us to a deeper understanding of healing. For, if we are basically made of energy, we can use energy to perform necessary maintenance, cleansing, and repair of our body.
The subtle body, or energy body, consists of our aura around us, the meridians in the body, and the main energy centers or chakras. It is more fundamental to who we are than the physical body.
We carry with us an impression of all prior experiences. That impression is present in our energy body, and the karma is stored in our main energy centers.
It is possible to clear out the karmic energy of countless lives by first of all rejecting karma, stepping out of the karmic system, and then transmuting all of the negative energy in or around us. Negative energy draws negative events, circumstances, and hardship to us.
There is no valid reason to accept, accumulate, use, or be hurt by negative energy. Not now, not ever. It only has a dis-integrating effect on our physical, mental, emotional, psychic, or spiritual well-being.
When we speak of energy, just as when we speak of "Light," we are not referring to the gross forms of energy and light that we see in the physical world. Life-force energy and spiritual Light are even less substantial, and are not seen with the gross physical senses. Yet, these subtle energies are perceived by people with refined perceptions.
Actually, you do not need to be able to perceive these energies in order to use them. You can visualize them. They respond to your mind, your intentions, and your practice.
So, for example, you can practice cleansing your aura by visualizing a pure white light bathing your aura, the space around you, extending a couple of feet in all directions. Doing so will clear many unnecessary energies from your space.
You can practice cleansing the energy within your body, too. Just picture the same pure white light filling every cell of your body, down to the DNA and molecular level. If you have any places of lack, deficiency, or hurt, you can practice sending healing energy to those places. Sometimes it helps to place your hand directly over the affected area, and visualize the area being cleansed and healed, repaired and rejuvenated. This, of course, is not intended to replace medical treatment. But, it has been found by various people in the healing professions that healing may take place more quickly or effectively with the "laying on of hands."
What follows is a powerful cleansing exercise, for spiritual purification and healing. We all gather varying amounts of negative energy as we walk through this world, and unless we transmute those energies back into white Light, they manifest as all forms of suffering, sickness, and hurt. That is how the karmic system is set up. Negative energy accumulates, even when you have little or no awareness of it, and eventually precipitates as a negative condition.
This exercise is for the purpose of clearing negative energy from the energy body and aura, to remove the various causes of suffering from us.
Exercise Two: In this exercise you will be visualizing a
pure violet light or energy, which will transmute all
negativity (returning it back to white Light). Take a few
deep breaths, relaxing on the exhale, and settle comfortable
where you are. After you have read through the following
process, close your eyes and begin.
First, picture yourself surrounded by a sphere of pure
white Light. Affirm that nothing can enter your aura that is
not for your highest good. See or feel this Light coming
from above your head, shining down on you, covering you,
filling you. If you find it helpful, you can visualize an
image that reminds you of your connection with spirit, or God.
Next, picture a bright violet light above your head,
filling the sphere of energy with a beautiful purple color.
Allow yourself to sit in this violet energy, and affirm that
all negativity is leaving you now.
Visualize the violet energy as a ball of light above your
head, and begin to move it down through your physical body.
See it settle on the top of your head, cleansing, brightening;
then allow it to move down to the middle of your forehead, then
your throat, your heart, your solar plexus, your navel, and
then the base of your spine.
If you find the violet color intense, you can simply sit
in that color energy briefly. If it still feels intense, you
can make the color more diffuse, a paler color. Rather than
forgoing the exercise, you may wish to do it for a brief period
of time, once a day, or once a week perhaps. Even a little
can make a big difference in the amount of negativity you
accept or hold in your aura or energy body.
If you find it helpful, you can visualize a vortex of
violet energy spinning near you, drawing all negativity from
you; the negative energies are sent down to the center of the
earth, where they are transmuted into white Light by the violet
energy.
When you are comfortable with this violet cleansing
energy for longer periods of time, you can take time to be
aware of the ball of energy as it moves down through your
body. Pay attention to it, affirming that you are releasing
anything that is not in accordance with your Highest Good.
You can affirm that whatever is coming up is leaving you, for
good.
Specifically affirm: the violet light is transmuting all
negative karma, past, present, or future; all negative causes
or effects, past, present, or future; on all levels, for all
time, in all realities. And, see it as being so.
When you are finished, see yourself surrounded by and
filled with pure white Light. Rub your hands together, take
a few moments, and gently open your eyes. Sit quietly for a
minute or so before rushing up and doing things, to integrate
the experience.
8. Perseverance
Everything changes. As much as would might like some things to remain as they are, all things must change, all things must pass. This is not a bad thing.
We have to believe that nothing good is ever lost.
And we need to know what to hold on to and what to let go of.
The more limited our view of life, the more likely we are to rely upon habit: making things constant that would ordinarily be different or change. The less sense we have of the whole of our life, and who we are, the more likely we are to cater to addictions. Those are attempts to keep something from changing in our life, to try to hold on to some state of mind, sensation, or hope. But, the things we hope for are actually rejected by the very process of addiction.
We cannot depend upon anything or anyone outside us, or try to make something outside of us unchanging, to try to maintain a state of happiness. That doesn't really work.
Good things happen. Bad things happen. What matters isn't how we try to control everything so as to make everything be the way we want it to be — that isn't realistic. Rather, what matters is how we deal with change.
What are we telling ourselves about the changes we experience?
Are we trying to hold onto something that leaves? Are we grasping for a state of consciousness, an unchanging state of "enlightenment"?
There is a saying: "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water." The idea is, you may be more aware and more spiritually self-realized, but you may still do the things you did before. The basic needs of life tend to not change much at all. Hopefully, you may experience leaving negative circumstances behind you, and opening to more progressive ones. Sometimes, the more things change, the more they remain the same.
We may spend all our time, all our life, trying to change everything so that it meets with our satisfaction. We do this with people, places, things, situations, problems, our homes, ... our selves. And, when we arrive at the place we want to be, we find that we have been there the whole time. We didn't need to try to arrange everything for our "arrival." We simply needed to realize where we were, all the time.
We don't get to control everything in our lives in some magical state of enlightenment. All we can do is live our life as best we can. Some things may change a lot, others may not seem to change at all. Spiritual maturity is a process of rising above the suffering, attachments, and ego-emotional nature of our lives. It doesn't make everything perfect. It doesn't heal everything.
We don't need to keep looking back, to see what we could have done better, to see what has brought us suffering. We don't need to keep re-experiencing that. We simply need to move on.
Life is movement. Change is happening all around us. There is a flow that we can go with, but it is not the flow of the outer world; it is the flow of our inner self, our inner-directedness, our return to wholeness, our return to Source.
The return to Source is a lot like the journey of a fish back to where it was born, relentless in its path, swimming upstream against the current, occasionally leaping up over the rapids. When we have a sense of Home, and Source, we seek it with at least as much perseverance. It doesn't have to be hard. We can find the path of least resistance, as we swim against the current. The world is rushing in one direction, we are moving in the other.
The journey home has many twists and turns, many contrary currents, but it is worth it in the end. You have to know that. Otherwise, you may find yourself just giving in to the dominant currents and trends of the time, being carried along by the downward current, rather than rising upwards, higher, always higher.
Have you ever felt like a fish swimming upstream, against the current?
Keep going. You are almost home.
9. One Life
In our society, which largely believes that we have just this one life, we are told to make the most of this life.
But this earthly life is not all there is. We go on, beyond this life. The Greater Reality involves the transmigration of the soul.
Knowing this, we can let go of many things we once took far too seriously, took to heart, or burdened ourselves carrying.
Still, this life is important. It is our chance to know who we truly are. It is all we have to work with.
We are here, now. But, that should not make us spiritually short-sided or blind. We should not lose sight of eternity, by merely thinking of the present moment (or the present life) as all there is. It is not.
We have this life. It is enough to remember, understand, know, or realize who we truly are.
One life is enough to find the truth, love, peace, and hope in our heart.
One life is enough to open ourselves to receiving Divine Grace.
One life is enough to find the Way out of here.
One life is enough to know what they have all been about: fleeting glimpses of joy, peace, love, and goodness.
One life is enough to let us know that we don't want a short-lived experience of Spirit, but that we want to live in the presence of God, forever.
One life is enough to find our connection or lifeline to True Source.
One life is enough to realize we are done here.
One brief moment in time is enough to connect us with Eternal Life.
It is essential to reject the illusion that "there is nothing to do" because we are already one with God, and that there is nowhere else to go because we are already "there."
This world is not heaven, heavenly, or the kingdom of God. It is not our true home, source, or origin. It is what we need to reach beyond, not adjust to.
If you realize the soul does not die when the physical body does, if you come to understand that, do not let that be an excuse to do all the wrong things in this life, and imagine that it doesn't matter. Every choice you make matters; everything you do matters. Everything you do affects everyone and everything else. It is only ignorance which allows people in a "higher" state of awareness to ignore the Greater Reality beyond this karmic system.
Do not waste the priceless opportunity of this life, the chance to step out of that system. Do not mistake the system of karma and reincarnation, its endless "lessons" and suffering, its illusions and falsehood, for the divine Reality. It is not. One life has enough karma to put us on an endless cycle of birth and death, seemingly without end. One life is enough to get beyond that cycle of birth and death, and find eternal Life with God. But, that is not here. It is not in the karmic system.
Seek first the kingdom of God. And begin to live your life from there, from Grace.
In the words of one ancient tradition: "Can the good actions or dreadful sins that a man fancies himself doing in the dream-state, lead him to heaven or hell after he has awakened from sleep?"
It is time to awaken from the long sleep, and the dream-state.
